Kendriya Vidyalaya Chamera-1, NHPC Khairi has a guidance and counselling committee that helps the students by providing the psychological and educational support needed to develop their potential and achieve the optimum level of happiness and social usefulness. Regular counselling sessions are conducted in the school. - The purpose of guidance and counselling services is to help each student develop as an individual in his/her own right, make choices, and set goals based on his/her strengths. By attending to the special needs and requirements of students belonging to different social, economic, and cultural backgrounds, guidance and counselling help students engage in the educational process and, thereby, benefit from the curricular experiences.
- Guidance and counselling not only help students to develop an understanding of themselves and others, but it also supports students in dealing with their personal- social, academic, and career-related concerns. It facilitates the development of effective study habits, and motivation, identifying learning or subject-related problems, helping students to see the relevance of school years in life and for the future, developing skills, the right attitude and interests to help choose a career, etc. Guidance and counselling, thus, promote the holistic development of every student.
- All the Teachers regularly guide the students to maintain academic standards and set goals for academic success and also help students resolve personal or impersonal problems.
- A corner showcases Career guidance in the school near the school library where students can easily approach and benefit themselves.
The requirement of guidance and counselling for students emerges from the changes taking place in every sphere of life. Academic stress, poor academic performance, cutthroat competition, vast and varied educational and career opportunities, resulting confusion in making career choices, ever-growing, changing, and complex world of work, drop-out, suicide, anger, violence, drug abuse, child abuse, crime, changes in lifestyle, divorced, single parents, etc. are some of the concerns which require the support of guidance and counselling services to school students.
Counselling sessions have been conducted for classes 6 to 12 in the school where teenage problems/issues and gender sensitization were discussed. This session was very fruitful for the students. Career counselling sessions are being conducted from time to time for classes 9 to 12.
THE GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING PROVIDED IN THE VIDAYLAYA FOCUS ON THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
1.Assessing pupils’/students’ individual developmental and educational needs and psychological and physical abilities.
2. Identifying pupils’/students’ strengths, predispositions, interests, and aptitudes or talents.
3. Identifying reasons behind academic failures or difficulties in pupils’/students’ functioning, including barriers and constraints that make it difficult for them to function and participate in the life of their school.
4. Taking measures that help pupils/students develop their competencies and potential to enhance the effectiveness of their learning process and improve their functioning.
5. Performance/functional behaviour assessment;
6. Barriers and constraints in the environment that make it difficult for pupils/students to function and participate in the life of their school.
