Kendriya Vidyalaya Chamera-1 organized a workshop for all the teachers on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 on 30th April, 2024.The workshop was conducted by Smt. Pooja Kapoor, PGT Maths. It aimed at raising awareness among the teaching and non-teaching staff about the sensitive issue of child sexual abuse. The informative session covered crucial topics like the fundamental rights of children, salient features of POCSO Act, 2012,Statistics of Child sexual Abuse,Sign and symptoms for identification of victim of CSA,Types of Sexual Abuse ,the importance of identifying and reporting instances of abuse and above all the role of school in Preventing Child Sexual Abuse. Smt. Pooja Kapoor explained the features of the POCSO Act which protects all children under-18 years of age. She pointed out that the Act is gender-neutral and elaborated on the different forms of abuse ranging from sexual harassment to pornography to both penetrative and non-penetrative assaults. Principal Smt. Vijeta Dara, appreciated the session and highlighted that it equipped all attendees with valuable knowledge on a critical subject matter.She then counseled the teachers on the correct approach to address such cases and reiterated the significance of creating a safe and supportive environment for all students within the school. Teachers were directed to gain the confidence of students so that they could feel safe enough to confide in any form of sexual abuse. All in all workshop helped the school staff understand an unspoken taboo issue. The workshop was successful as it helped acquaint teachers with the laws of the POCSO Act. Every student is as dear as our child and we as teachers will strive to account for the safety of all children .
